Doomsday is coming

Get what your songs earned before it's too late.

Unregistered songs don’t get paid. Royalties tied to works that The Mechanical Licensing Collective and the Performance Rights Organizations can’t match end up in unclaimed pools that — by law and by long-standing practice — eventually flow to the rightsholders who did register, allocated by market share. That redistribution mechanism isn’t a bug in the system; it’s how the system was deliberately built. Getting the registrations in before the next round is the only way your catalog stays eligible, and the window is still open.

The biggest number sits in the historical pool. When The MLC launched in 2021, the streaming services transferred roughly $397 million in pre‑2021 royalties (covering 2007–2020) that they had collected but couldn't match to a registered work. The MLC has since distributed about $229 million of that to writers who registered and claimed their share. The remaining ~$168 million is waiting on the same market share distribution mechanism. Every song registered now becomes eligible. Songs that never register won't be.

In early 2027, The MLC begins its first market share distribution — the roughly $7 million remaining pool of unmatched mechanical royalties from January 2021 streaming usage gets allocated pro-rata to the catalogs that did get matched in time. Each subsequent month closes the same door on another month's pool. The PROs have been running quieter versions of the same redistribution mechanism for years — the only difference is that The MLC's deadline has a public date attached. Doom Tide's Self-Admin tier ($250 before Doomsday) walks you through every registration at The MLC and your PRO — bulk‑upload files included — so the door doesn't close on your catalog.
